A-do on the 2006 World Cup

With the World Cup starting tomorrow, I thought this would be a good time to translate and post a couple of related A-do quotes. So I went to search the A-do Baidu forum for the relevant interviews.

I can't find the report on the Zaobao website, so I will post the relevant part of the article in Chinese together with the translation.

目前多数时间在中国发展的我国歌手阿杜，今天将从台湾回新，明天4月30日参与在政府大厦前草场（Padang）举行的《心连心庆五一》的大型演出。 

在忙完这一系列的工作后，从上一届开始就支持巴西队的阿杜开心表示：“我要放假了！应该会去德国观看世界杯足球赛，反正热闹，而且我又有一、两个月的空档。”

Local singer A-do who currently spends most of his time working in China will return to Singapore from Taiwan today. He will be singing in the May Day concert tomorrow (30 April 2006).

With his current series of engagements ending soon, A-do, who has been supporting Brazil since the 2002 World Cup, said happily, "I will be taking a break! I should be going to Germany to watch the World Cup. Anyway, it's going to be lively, and I have one or two months free."

(I wonder if he did make that trip since he was JJ's guest performer at his 24 June 2006 Singapore concert and Brazil was eliminated shortly after that.)

Interviewer: Which team(s) do you support the most?
A-do: I am optimistic about two teams. One is Brazil, the other is Italy. I am very optimistic about these two teams.

阿杜：“乔装”投票避歌迷

　　阿杜有五一劳动情意结，所以主动要求出席“心连心庆五一”演唱会。工头出身的他，第一张专辑《他一定很爱你》就是在五一劳动节推出。

　　他说：“以前当工头时，每逢五一劳动节都很开心，因为大家可以放假。”

　　回忆4年前发第一张专辑《他一定很爱你》，阿杜说：“难忘当时紧张的心情，因为是第一张专辑，不知道未来会怎样，那种压力很辛苦。”

合约新动向？

　　阿杜跟海蝶的合约即将结束，他说，下个月应该就会宣布是否续约：“我还在思考……我是歌手，希望以唱歌为主，所以最重要的考量，是希望公司将我的规划重心放在唱歌部分。”

自家溶金，差点失火

　　阿杜受母亲影响，喜欢戴金、卖金。他说：“妈妈很喜欢金，我每次出国，通常会在当地的金店或在机场的金店，买金给自己和送妈妈。”

　　当艺人前，阿杜喜欢戴金饰，当歌手后的形象主要以银色配件为主，少有机会戴金，于是阿杜买了个溶金器，把金饰溶成金条，过程有惊无险，他说一次差点把屋子烧掉，情节非常搞笑。

　　他说：“当时只有我和妈妈在家，她在楼下看电视，我在楼上溶金。我一不小心倒在地上着火，我大声喊：‘妈！着火了！’她冲上楼，我们忙着灭火，之后我也没有再溶金了。”

买屋防止乱花钱

　　阿杜最近花了60万，在武吉知马买了公寓，目前在装修中，两个多月后可搬进去。他说：“发新专辑后回新加坡，看了这栋屋子感觉很满意，很快就买下来。其实，买屋子也好，不然我会乱乱花钱，哈哈！”

乔装功夫了得

　　来临大选，住在东区的阿杜首次有投票机会。阿杜是否担心投票当天被歌迷认出来？

　　阿杜自信笑笑说：“我的乔装功夫很好，有试过跟10个艺人碰面，10个都认不出我，只要我不开口说话。”至于乔装的秘诀，阿杜只能透露说：“头发很重要。”

On a side note, today is Polling Day in Singapore. Just cast my first vote ever. I am privileged to be able to consider two teams of candidates and their ideas.

Before the previous election in 2006, there was a Wanbao article about the various Singaporean singers coming home to cast their vote. (A-do was one of them.) I will see if I can dig it up.

The tune may sound familar, because this song was eventually recorded by Hong Kong girl duo Twins as 我很想爱他 (I really want to love him) A-do recorded this song in 2006 for a charity organisation in Taiwan called 阶梯梦想基金会 (which I shall take the liberty to translate as Step Dreams Organisation) which sends children from poor families to school, if I remember correctly. It's a nice and simple song, and I was a little disappointed when it wasn't chosen as one of the songs in his album.
