A-do’s November messages on Baidu

《成义国杜》is currently down, so I went to search for videos instead. And I found this verified page where A-do leaves messages:

I will be adding this as one of the sidebar links.

What’s that song on One Million Singer/Don’t Forget the Lyrics?

This is one very belated post.

A-do’s song《单向的爱》appeared as one of the song choices in《我要唱下去》 (Chinese version of Don’t Forget the Lyrics in Singapore). After that, I saw《撕夜》and《离别》showing up in different episodes of《百万大歌星》 (One Million Singer – the Taiwanese equivalent of Don’t Forget the Lyrics but with slightly different rules) However, all these songs weren’t given much airtime in Singapore (and I think Taiwan too) at the time of their release, so I wasn’t too surprised that the contestants didn’t choose these songs.

《撕夜》and《离别》are both from A-do’s 2002 debut《天黑》Tian Hei, while 《单向的爱》is in 2007’s《撒野》/《差一点》(mainland Chinese title)/Release.

《单向的爱》doesn’t have an official music video, so what I am posting here is the opening footage from 2007’s《爱情烘焙屋》/Love Bakery, where A-do was the main lead. The other related videos from CTV’s Youtube channel can be seen here:

A-do in Singapore Hit Awards flashback video

(the video seems to have been taken down, so I am removing the URL and "videos" tag)

He sang the theme song as a newcomer in 1999 (unfortunately this is not in the video, but it was shown on TV a few years ago), and won the Best Newcomer (Gold) and Best Local Singer (with Stefanie Sun) in 2002 and 2003 respectively.
No nominations this year, but hopefully next year I will be filing more posts under the “Singapore Hit Awards” label with his album tentatively due this November.

A word on A-do’s foreword for Queenie Tai’s Budget Study Travel

I have already gotten my copy, thanks to my dad, and I have seen the foreword. A-do and Ming Dao wrote their forewords individually, it’s just that they are both on the same page. Sorry for giving the wrong information!

10 July 2009: A-do’s role in Atlantica confirmed

To briefly translate, he plays an artillery role (incidentally, someone once posted an article on one of the fan forums about him doing something similar in National Service – Singapore’s compulsory military conscription for male teens).

I wish I had this passage as my exam question in secondary school

His songs are a bit sad, but his boy-like smile can quickly warm you up! And people love A-do for both reasons.

He sings for only two years, but he's already a bit star in Asia's pop world. The Singaporean(新加坡)singer has already (已经) made three albums (专辑).Together they have sold more than five million copies across Asia.
Last Friday, China's Music Radio named "the Asian King of Pop."A-do said he didn't expect the award (
奖励)."It's great for me. It makes me want to work even harder."

His new album "Hello" came out in December. He sings with the same rough (
粗糙的) voice, and he puts in some rock music. In the "Hello" music video, Vicky Zhao (赵薇) is with A-do outside on a cold day in Northern China.
A-do was a huose builder before he became singer. Every day after work, he would sing by himself. Other workers heard him and told him he should be in a contest (
A-do doesn't change much. He still gers nervous in front of cameras (
镜头).Peng Yiting a Junior at Beijing's No 80 Middle School, says, "He's real and doesn't show off(炫耀).He's an everyday hero and shows anyone can do well if they work hard."

1 How are A-do's songs, according to the text?
2 Where is A-do from?
3 Which word in the story describes A-do's voice?
4 What did A-do do before he became a singer?
5 Why do his fans like him so much?

(I spaced out the words, but left the spelling as it is.)

News report of A-do’s Wuhan performance yesterday

Because of H1N1…

(Deleted the previous video because I couldn’t encode it not to automatically start playing after loading, so will repost it once the previous video has moved to the next page of entries.)

Due to the emergence of the first locally transmitted case of H1N1 in Guangzhou, temperature screening has been stepped up at the local airport. taozideshouhou who studies medicine said that her coursemates are on duty there to do the screening. “So A-do, don’t come to Guangzhou, or I will be putting in an application to take your temperature!”

I replied, “I believe the airports use thermal scanners (which the passengers just walk through)?”

“Oh, is it? That’s just the 1st stage, if anyone’s temperature exceeds 37 degrees Celsius they will be taken aside to have their temperature taken again manually.”

Of course, all of the above was said with no ill intention.

Fanfiction stories featuring A-do

I was reading about fanfiction on a favourite author’s blog, and then remembered, in the first one or two years after A-do released his first album, that I had seen fanfiction with A-do as a character. I was even inspired to write some of my own, featuring mainly Singaporean artistes, but never posted it anywhere public.

This is a story I was reading at that time:

And these are others I just discovered:

A-do co-writes foreword for Queenie Tai’s new book Budget Study Travel

(cover photo from above link)

Queenie is the female lead for Love Bakery, and this is her second book on her experience studying in the United States. From the content page listed it looks like A-do co-wrote one of the recommendation forewords with Ming Dao, another of Queenie’s previous co-stars. Pre-orders are currently being taken in Taiwan.

Wonder if this will be out in Singapore as well?

1-3 October 2007 Taiwan radio recordings

For those 3 days A-do was the guest DJ on this radio show. The last recording on the DJ’s blog entry, when someone requested Stanley Huang’s 《音浪》Yin Lang (Sound Wave), is hilarious. A few days later during my Physics lecture on sound waves I held in my laughter at the memory of hearing the recording, and on Let’s Dance 2 weeks ago, one group performed accompanied by a medley of Stanley’s songs, one of which was 《音浪》, and I could feel the laughter bubbling up within me again.

The Youtube videos on the blog entry has been deleted, but the audio recordings are still there.

Warmth just when I needed it

I was shivering a lot in the lecture theatre this afternoon. It was only when I went out for a toilet break that I realised that it had rained for the first time since Chinese New Year.

My bus home doesn’t stop near my lecture theatre today, so I had to walk out in the rain to take a shuttle back to my home faculty, then take the homeward bus. Fortunately, I got a seat, but on the flip side, I was seated under an air-con nozzle blasting out cold air. I started my phone’s music player and thought, “Now the song I would like to hear most now is 《温暖》(Wen Nuan/Warmth sung by A-do and Vicki Zhao on CCTV’s 2003 Chinese New Year countdown)…” Guess what, it was indeed the first song I heard. (My music player is usually on shuffle mode, so I get a variety of songs every time I listen.)

However, the air-con continued at full blast, so I got up a few stops before home and stood at the exit where there aren’t any nozzles. After I alighted I was (and still am) thankful it is a tropical climate I live in.

PS for passing Vicki fans: Just before I got up I think I heard someone playing Vicki’s 2005 song《我和上官燕》 (Wo He Shang Guan Yan/Me and Shang Guan Yan) on his phone.
